Course Description

Patient Compliance with Secondary Stroke has been a focus since the first hospital was certified by The Joint Commission (TJC) in 2005 as a Stroke Center. Initially hospitals printed free education materials from various websites or perhaps created their own. Then in 2014 when TJC published the revised standards related to stroke education, the focus shifted to providing multidisciplinary patient centered education and establishing patient-centered daily and discharge goals to reduce secondary stroke. Currently twenty percent of the patients who have one stroke will have a second stroke within twelve months. Hospitals across the United States are still challenged to meet the new 2014 stroke education standard.

This course is the perfect one hour education module for all members of the stroke multidisciplinary team. Certified Stroke Centers across the United States will learn how to identity self-supporting compliance barriers and compliance strategies to enhance existing stroke education. Engaging patients and their families in active, patient-centered stroke education and aiding in compliance with their discharge goals will improve patient outcomes and reduce the secondary strokes.
